sometimes we celebrate birthdays

Jess held her birthday celebration at my favorite summer time event, cinespia.  In addition, the movie was Cool Hand Luke staring the ultimate man, paul newman.   Fun was had.

He's Afraid He'll Miss Something

For me, 8 1/2 requires being in a certain sort of mood, but when I am there, it is a film I really truly love.  Escapism at its finest.  Some people go on long drives to think things through, I've come to find that I dive into films & books.

glee

I watched a pilot for a new show on fox called 'glee' today. in sync, the "varsity" or advanced group that i was in actually filmed part of it & did vocals for the pilot. nice to know the future guys are still keeping BHS legit. i know that i will watch it every week, simply for how nostalgic it makes me over my highschool show choir days. sometimes i wonder what life would've been like had i pursued a career in something more musically inclined. eh, let's get real, it's more fun to remember the 'good 'ol days.'
now let's get on with the rest of this sweet memorial day weekend.

To Infinity & Beyond

There's no denying it, the music industry is changing rapidly. It's gotten to a point where no one knows exactly what the future will look like, it's a new frontier where anything is possible.
Here's another extremely interesting article about how TuneCore is going about it:
On Demand CD Printing, srsly

Suck It EMI

Nothing says stickin it to the man like this article & I love it:

Frustrated With EMI, Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Release A Blank CD-R
Dark Night Of The Soul with Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse & David Lynch

(Updated) Upset by a lack of support from label EMI for his new "Dark Side Of The Soul" project, Danger Mouse is self-releasing a 100 page booklet of photographs along with a blank CD-R and asking his fans to do the rest. The artist sent this message:

Danger Mouse lynch "Danger Mouse's new project Dark Night Of The Soul consists of an album length piece of music by Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse and a host of guest vocalists, along with a collection of original David Lynch photography inspired by and based on the music.

The photographs, which provide a visual narrative for the music, are compiled in a limited edition, hand numbered 100+ page book which will now come with a blank, recordable CD-R. All copies will be clearly labeled: "For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.

Due to an ongoing dispute with EMI Danger Mouse is unable to release the recorded music without fear of being sued by EMI. "

Danger Mouse remains very proud of Dark Night Of The Soul and hopes and that people lucky enough to hear the music, by whatever means, are as excited by it as he is."

NPR, STARS & COPYRIGHT LAWS
The album began showing up on file sharing networks several days ago and a copy was sent to NPR which is now streaming the album in full on its web site. A plethora of artists signed to other labels also appear on the project including:
James Mercer of The Shins, The Flaming Lips, Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals, Jason Lytle of Grandaddy, Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, Frank Black of the Pixies, Iggy Pop, Nina Persson of The Cardigans, Suzanne Vega, Vic Chesnutt, David Lynch, and Scott Spillane of Neutral Milk Hotel and The Gerbils.

Is Danger Mouse encouraging fans to break the law by downloading copyright restricted material? The Electronic Frontier Foundation pointed to an interesting copyright law wrinkle:

If the blank CD-R is a royalty-paid "music CD-R," then the copies made by fans (whether made from NPR or P2P) would be legal under 17 U.S.C. 1008, which provides that no infringement lawsuit may be "based on the noncommercial use by a consumer of [a digital audio recording] medium for making digital musical recordings." Digital audio recording medium (DARM) is defined to include "music CD-Rs" on which a royalty is paid to copyright owners.

And So I Stayed Up All Night, Slept In All Day

Watching the sun rise,  while sitting on the edge of the Alamitos Bay docks was so peaceful.  Sitting there and dipping my toes in the water, I wished I had grabbed my camera from the truck because I wanted to remember just how good it felt.
The last time I trespassed anywhere was in highschool--we found a car dealership in South Orange County with a bounce house & decided to make use of it at 3 in the morning.  The OC police were not amused.
I woke up with out an alarm this afternoon & watched A Woman Is A Woman, lounged around while readjusting & attempting to slip into today.  We're going to have a Lost catch up later this afternoon & hopefully play some wii.  Sometimes when you just let go & breath, things fall together so seamlessly.  I'd like to hold onto this feeling.
Martin's computer was stolen yesterday.  The 6th or 7th person in the last couple months.  I'm so worried I will be next.

mojito season

It's slowly starting to warm up which means more & more weekends will be spent trying to stay cool with friends...and enjoying my favorite summer beverage-mojitos!
This commercial is the perfect introduction to this time of year--(now if only we could book a commercial like this for the Rejects or one of our other artists!)

eye candy

While downloading myself on some of the fashion blogs I've missed during the week, I grabbed some highlights & felt the need to share.

Camilla & Marc...yes, please.
Dries Van Noten S/S 09, I hate how much I pine after his line, season after season.
Lykke Li.  Not only do I really enjoy her music, but the girl easily transitions into an editorial model.

Saturday was one of those packeverythingpossibleintooneday days.  Overall, I think it went off with out a hitch.  Bfast at the Starling with a friend (I'd really missed that place. So good.) --> Straight into errands and then baking and preparing the cake for Diana's bbq -->to work to -->the bbq from work, etc etc.  The Temple house is just one of those houses that everyone associates with good people and good times.  You can't help but love being in Long Beach & having friends like I do on days like that.

(i)photobooth is weird & ichatting is even stranger--especially when it's with people you see on a regular basis; both easily considered laughable.
It's currently Sunday, early evening.  I've cleaned my house a little and read at the coffee shop.  I've resized my pics &  started my laundry & am now watching a marathon of Rob & Big episodes while mentally preparing myself for that real world that begins at 6am tomorrow.  I can't help but feel like there's never enough time for everything.
